Continental Airlines is committed to providing a safe and comfortable travel experience for your new BHB Puppy. Because they share our concern that our BHB pups flights are stress-free, continental has enhanced there animal acceptance policy to transport pets as cargo. The program is called PetSafe®. Under this program, Continental does not accept pets as checked baggage.
************RESTRICTIONS************
Brachycephalic (Short-Nosed) Dog Breeds
Extra care is required when the following breeds are shipped because they often have hereditary respiratory problems. These animals are susceptible to increased risk of heat stroke and breathing problems when exposed to stress or extreme heat:
Boston Terrier
Boxer
Brussels Griffin
Bull Terrier
Pug
English Bulldog
English Toy Spaniel
French Bulldog
Japanese Chin
Japanese Pug
Pekinese
Shih Tzu
On the recommendation of there consulting veterinarian, Continental Airlines will now require the following to reduce stress and heat exposure when shipping or handling the above-mentioned breeds:
Use 1 size larger kennel than is normally required
Use a kennel with ventilation on 4 sides. (If the kennel does not have ventilation on 4 sides, modify the kennel by drilling 7 holes in the rear top and 7 holes in the rear bottom of the kennel using a 3/4 inch keyhole bit).
Acclimate the animal to the kennel by letting the animal spend time in the kennel for several days before its departure
Do not place food in the kennel during the flight, just water
Provide plenty of water to the animal. A water bottle supplied by BHB attached to the front of the carrier will give plenty of water for your puppies flight.
************ENGLISH BULLDOGS**************
Continental Airlines has embargoed the transport of French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Bulldogs for the period May 15 – Sept 15, 2007. These animals are embargoed as they are especially susceptible to high heat, high humidity and stress. Any one of these factors can be fatal and summer months bring on all 3 of these conditions and are nearly impossible to protect against. Thus in the interest of these animals' safety, we will not carry them during this time period.
BHB offers alternative delivery methods between May 15 thru Sept 15 @ the buyers expense.
